Cross country!

This is my cross country recount. I'm not sure if I had fun or not but I sure did like the sausage at the end.

As we waited impatiently for the bus we played a game of Paper, Scissors, Rock. Just as I was winning 10:2 the bus came bumping down the road. We bustled onto the bus and I sat next to Isabella and Jaweria. Then we started the long bus ride. I even started to feel sick, but it went away as soon as we got there. We had to walk up a big hill to get to the start. Our class was the last to arrive. When we got there Mrs Langley was just starting to speak of the day plan. It was the year 3’s, then the year 4’s, year 5’s and the year 6’s, and they always went girls and then boys.

After Mrs Langley had summed up the morning the year 3’s went to do their warm ups. I chatted with Isabella, Jaweria and Arianna. We cheered and clapped as the year 3’s with my little sister in the middle of them, came running past. I quickly had some snacks and some water. It wasn't long until we had to go for our warm ups. As we waddled down a steep hill to the starting line Isabella, Jaweria, and I huddled together shivering. We could not even do the warm ups properly, we just stood as still as statues.

BANG!!! The fake gun fired. Me and Isabella ran up and over the hill. I heard the cheers from the parents and children. I felt so proud. I ran through a gate and a giant hill taunted Isabella and me. “Come on Isabella! We can do it!” I said to Isabella as we jogged up the hill. “YAY! We made it.” Yelled Isabella “Not for long though.” I replied “Look.” We cringed our necks and saw about 3 more big hills. “AWWWW! That one was big enough.” We complained. “Let’s get it over and done with.” I said to her. We jogged and ran and sprinted and walked and then walked some more.

When we finally finished we got a scrumptious sausage even with sauce for free! I gulped it down in 3 bites. Everyone packed up and headed back to school. I crashed into bed as soon as I got home.

My favourite thing to do

Sports

One of my favourite things to do is play sports. I play tennis, basketball, and netball.

I stared playing tennis about 3 years ago. It looked fun to me so I thought that I might try it, and I found that I was pretty good at it. I play in the interclub and I play for the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Club (or MLTC for short). I play with 4 other girls that are in my team, Ruby, Zahnia,
Zlata, and Ella. We play on Saturday mornings and we play 1 doubles game and 1 singles. But since we only have 5 players usually someone misses out on their doubles and someone else misses out on their singles each week, and we always swap around so everyone gets a fair turn.

Basketball I stared last year. My friend Emma said that I should do it. But I didn't. Then Mr R's team lost a player so he asked me to replace him. I talked to my mum and dad and they said that I should do it. When I told Mr R that I could play he told me that the game was next Thursday. So I had to practice, practice, practice. When Thursday came I felt a bit nervous to start off with but when I got on the court I was always having fun and really enjoying it. So I played for the rest of the year and this year I got into another team with some of my friends.

Now netball. I started 3 years ago when my mum suggested that I do netball. I said OK I'll give it a try. I got into a great team and the year after that my mum coached me. This year I got into the best only year 6 team which I was aiming for and I was really happy when I found out. I have been practicing a lot lately and I try to do 100 hoops a day.

I just love to do sports. It keeps me happy and fit. I can even EXPRESS myself through sports. Eg: If I win then I feel happy and I show it, and if I lose I can look sad, though sometimes I can hide it pretty well. etc.

One other thing that I like to do

I love to perform in Kapa Haka. I usually am the Kaea which means I tell everyone that we are about to start and I start and finish the songs. I also welcome on people like in a Marae and I basically lead the whole Kapa Haka group. Sometimes I like to start off songs with someone else so I feel more confident. I like doing Kapa Haka because I like to lead a group and I like singing, also I like Kapa Haka because it is always really fun and we learn some great song and actions, sometimes even poi.

Mud run writing

We had to write a piece of writing related to a picture of a person in mud. I hope you enjoy. :) The Mud Run We were at Camp Green Pastures. It was time for the mud run. As we trudged along the grassy path I chatted happily to my friends: Isabella, Jaweria, and Emma. “What do you think it will be like?” asked Isabella. “How long will it be?” Questioned Jaweria. “ Do you think that we will be able to go around more than once?” Emma shouted eagerly over the noise. I replied to all of them with the same answer every time: “ I don’t know!” I answered patiently. When we got there we could all smell the stink from the mud (there also might of been a bit of cow poo in it too.). They let the parents go first through so they could find a place to stand incase they need to help us along the way. When they were ready then we got to go down in a group of 4. “ Next up is Jaweria, Isabella, Emma and Tiaki.” called Miss G. “ YAY!” we yelled together. We made our way down to the sticky gooey mud. As it squelched beneath our feet we realized that the mud got deeper and deeper and even harder to walk through. We jumped into a muddy sticky pond. Emma went right under. When she came back up again she had mud completely covering her whole face. We all giggled to ourselves. As we carried on Isabella and I spotted that Emma and Jaweria looked like they were struggling quite a bit. Suddenly with no warning they stopped moving their legs altogether. “Isabella, Tiaki! Help we’re stuck!” They called. Isabella and I thought quickly. “Wait there and don’t move we will go and get Mr R to come and help.” I shouted back. “ We kind of can’t move anyway.” Jaweria said sarcastically. Isabella and I went through the rest of the mud run as fast as we could. When we found Mr Robertson we quickly explained what had happened. We were quite relieved when he produced a long strong rope. “Show me where they are.” he commanded us. “ They are over here.” We replied together. We lead the way with our hearts beating loudly. When we reached Jaweria and Emma they looked as if they had gone down a bit in the mud. Also their expression looked a bit sad but their faces brightened a whole lot when they saw us and the rope. “ Alright girls we are going to get you out of this mess. Please grab hold of the rope when we throw it to you. When you do then we can pull you out. Ok?” instructed Mr R “Yep.” Replied Emma and Jaweria. Mr R threw the rope and they caught it. Then we heaved! Slowly but surely they were yanked out of the mud. “ Who hoo!” We screamed. Together we finished the Mud Run. (thankfully no one else got stuck) After it was over and we had washed our clothes in the river we almost fell asleep. We got back to camp and never saw it again.
